Travelling By Air

Travelling By Air

Travelling by air is not recommended shortly after birth. However, a baby can travel by air within 2 to 14 days. You should consult your baby’s doctor before you prepare your baby for travel. If necessary, get your baby vaccinated.

Generally, babies will require proper documentation before travelling by air. While travelling by air, your baby might experience discomfort in the air due to a change in air pressure. You must feed your baby while landing or take-off so that it can reduce air pressure in their ears.

While booking a seat on the flight, try to book bulkhead rows so that they can accommodate a bassinet. Booking your seat near the engine can help to soothe your baby due to humming sounds. Additionally, carrying your baby’s preference toy or blanket can make them comfortable through the journey.

While dressing your baby for air travel, onesies are the best option. It makes the diaper-changing task easier. You should avoid layering clothes as it can make the baby uncomfortable. Further, you must stick to the baby’s daily routine of feeding and sleeping.

Your infant can experience jet lag if you have shifted to different time zones. Infants may not want to eat or sleep at the proper time in the new time zone because they are cranky or exhausted. Planning beforehand would help, as will attempting to gradually adjust them to the new time zone before you leave. Get them outdoors in the sunlight when you get there, and if they are weary, let them take a quick nap.

Some Baby Essentials To Carry Along

You should keep some baby essentials handy while travelling. These things are quite useful, especially if the journey is taking longer.

These things are as follows:

  • Extra cloths
  • Toys
  • Nappies, wipes, and changing mats
  • Snacks and drinks

Conclusion

Travelling with a baby is a quite challenging task. Your baby should feel comfortable and calm while travelling to ensure smooth travelling. Carrying some essentials, their comfort food, drink, and toys can make them comfortable with the surroundings. You should make your baby feel secure and protected so that you both can travel and enjoy the journey together. This travelling may help in the development of the baby by knowing the new sensory experiences and languages.
